Elin and I had a chance to film this past weekend on the top of a mountain next to the Lünersee. It was truly magical. I’ve been working on an artist statement to explain this project as we’re starting to get to the editing phase, but the words have been hard to find. Needless to say, I love this phrase from “The Waste Land” by T.S. Eliot: “In the mountains, there you feel free.” The mountains have played a large role in my physical / emotional experiences over the past eight months, especially compared to the wide-open spaces of northern Germany that marked my 2016/2017 experience. Particularly when thinking of the concept of “holding space” and love, it’s been interesting to notice how I’ve found expanse in “contained” spaces — feeling surrounded and held in by mountains but also free and expansive. This project has largely been an exploration of space — both body and geographical and how those two intertwine — but also repetition and showing up, and feeling / exploring both grief and love. It’s unfinished and raw but what I’ve been exploring.

I love how the suspense builds as you read through the pictures one-by-one wondering where they will lead you. Great application of Eliot’s quote!
thanks mom! ❤
