Hi, still here. The ski season is slowly coming to an end–but not quite–and to say I’ve been a little obsessed the last few months would be an understatement! We had the deepest snowpack in North America and got fresh snow two weekends ago, so it’s hanging on. I’m on Day 41 (!) this season…and might manage to squeeze a few more ski days in before it all melts. š
I’ve been really grateful to have this outdoor escape during the gloomy winter months, and one of the few things in life that has managed to feel “normal.” Honestly, all things considered I think it’s been one of the most enjoyable seasons for me. I’ve felt a lot more confident on skis, explored 3 new resorts, pushed myself on more challenging terrain, tried out snowboarding, and also passed my Level 1 PSIA cert and am a certified instructor! Next steps: learning to ski on 1 ski and Level 2 š
As the lifts stop running, I’ve also gotten into a newer hobby–ski touring! Last March when the resorts shut down prematurely due to the pandemic, I happened to find a deal for a used pair of touring skis. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to use them last season, but I’ve put them to good use this season. Nothing too extreme — just hiking up inbound and skiing down. Makes for a great after work activity, and I enjoy getting to take in the quiet and sunsets in the way you don’t when downhill skiing.
Part of my creative practice self-challenge has been to explore more video content, with the goal of creating short 1 min videos. Ideally I’d like to explore creating longer videos and storytelling outside of the short popular TikTok style, but for now this is my starting point. Here’s a recent evening ski tour I did with a friend!
